Hello, I've heard that your choir is looking for new members.
Vorsitzende
Ja, das stimmt! Wir proben jeden Mittwochabend. Singen Sie schon lange?
Yes, that's right! We rehearse every Wednesday evening. Have you been singing long?
Neuer
Nur unter der Dusche, ehrlich gesagt.
Only in the shower, to be honest.
Vorsitzende
That doesn't matter, everyone's welcome here. The membership fee is 5 euros a month.

Prima, dann komme ich nächste Woche einfach mal vorbei.
Great, then I'll just drop by next week.

Why volunteer?

Kerstin
You work full-time. Why do you also help at the food bank on Saturdays?
Murat
Because I think everyone should do something for the community.
Kerstin
Ist das nicht anstrengend?
Isn't that tiring?
Murat
Manchmal schon, aber man bekommt so viel zurück. Außerdem habe ich dort tolle Leute kennengelernt.
Sometimes, yes, but you get so much back. Plus I've met great people there.
Kerstin
Vielleicht sollte ich das auch mal ausprobieren.
Maybe I should try it too.

The volunteer fire brigade

Lukas
Did you know that in the countryside there are almost only volunteer fire brigades?
Amira
Wirklich? Und die Leute bekommen kein Geld dafür?
Really? And the people don't get paid for it?
Lukas
No, they do it voluntarily, alongside their normal jobs.
Amira
Das ist ja eine große Verantwortung. Respekt!
That's a big responsibility. Respect!
